The Legislature is one of the three arms of government namely Executive, Judiciary, and the legislature;

The legislature of a state is empowered by the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria to “make laws for the peace, order and good government of the state or any part thereof’’ The legislature also exercises “oversight ‘’ over the other arms of government and appropriates all monies for the projects, programmes and functions of all arms of government.

About us

The legislature is first of the three arms of government in democracy; others are the Executive and the Judiciary.

The constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria empowers state legislature to;

  • Make laws “for the peace, order, and good government of the state’’
  • Appropriates all funds (income, revenues and expenditures) necessary for projects, programmes and all recurrent activities of all arms of government.
  • Exercises Oversight over policies, incomes, revenues and expenditure as well as project, programmes and functions of all arms of government.
  • Representative functions:(collating and presenting the views, cares, worries, needs and aspiration of their constituents)
  • Investigative functions (quasi judiciary).public petitions are investigated; mediation, reconciliation and positions are taken as appropriate.

The legislature exercises wide investigative powers and can call the highest executive and judicial officers to appear before it to answer/testify on any issues of public concerns and interest.

THE ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURES OF THE KADUNA STATE LEGISLATURE

Political:

The speaker is the overall political Head of the Legislature: he is supported by principal officers namely: Deputy Speaker, majority leader, chief whip, minority leader, minority whip.

  • Speaker ———- Deputy speaker

  • Chief whip ——- Minority whip.

Administration:

The administrative leadership is headed by the clerk to the legislature.

The clerk is the head of the legislative service; the Deputy clerk is the chief administrative officer of the office of the clerk.

There are six department headed by Directors as follows.

  3. Department of publications(Hansard)-D.0.P
  4. Department of Budget, Planning, Research & Statistics-DBPRS
  5. Department of finance and Accounts-DFA
  6. Department of Administration and Supply-DAS
